Bees Attack in Mesa Neighborhood

MESA, Ariz. - A Mesa neighborhood was swarmed by killer bees Sunday afternoon, when a hive was disturbed by a bee exterminator. The exterminator thought it would be an easy job, so he brought his family along. Three of them were rushed to a nearby hospital, after they were stung multiple times at about 12:15 p.m. A woman believed to be the bee exterminator's wife suffered at least 70 bee stings, and two children under the age of 10 suffered 50 stings each.

The home was vacant. The homeowner realized he had a problem when he was getting it ready to rent and saw swarms of bees. The bees were found under two plywood boards in the home's backyard. The bee exterminator was wearing a bee suit, when it was believed he disturbed the bees. He ran to the front of the home, and that's when the bees followed.

Neighbors said the front and back of the home were covered with bees, and a massive Swarm flew down the street. One man said the bees followed him all the way to his door. Mesa firefighters used a special foam to kill the bees. They evacuated part of the neighborhood. A fourth person was also stung. He was a teenager who refused treatment.
